27 Children Killed Traffic Crashes Since January 2013
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Twenty-seven children have died in road crashes since the start of the year.
This compares to 20 children killed in traffic crashes last year and 39 in 2011 according to National Road Safety Council (NRSC) data.
The NRSC states that of the 27 children killed so far in 2013, 10 were pedestrians.
Five of the children were passengers in private motorcars (PMC), and four were in public passenger vehicles (PPV).
Three children were pillion passengers, four on motorcycles and one on a pedal cycle.
Since the start of the year, a total of 230 people have died in traffic accidents, 16 per cent more than the same period last year.
