Andrews Memorial SDA To End Wellness Series With Health Fair

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- The Andrews Memorial Seventh-day Adventist Church, in partnership with the Andrews Memorial Hospital, will host a Grand Health Fair on Sunday, October 6 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Hope Road in Kingston, to round off their Complete Wellness Series which began in September. Members of the public will have access to free blood pressure, blood sugar, Body Mass Index, cholesterol, HIV and syphilis tests at the health fair. The Jamaica Cancer Society will also offer other medical tests at special rates, including mammograms and pap smears Sharille Pink, a member of the church's communication department says the response has been good since the start of the Complete Wellness Series, which was launched with the Good Samaritan 5K Health Walk/Run on Sunday, September 1, and continued with presentations by health practitioners on various issues. "It has been pretty good but because of the hours, people tend to shy away from some presentations," Pink told the Jamaica Observer. She added that the demographics of those who turned out to each presentation on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm and on Saturdays at 8:00 am and 11:15 am varied based on the topic for discussion. She explained further that for the presentation on diabetes, the participants were mostly elderly individuals. Pink said health practitioners will be making their final presentation this Saturday and will be focusing on issues related to children.
