Biker Who Smashed SUV Gives Court Reporters The FINGER!

A Brooklyn man who was arraigned Sunday for his involvement in a violent confrontation last weekend in Manhattan between an SUV driver and a swarm of motorcyclists FLIPPED off reporters with both MIDDLE fingers before appearing his arraignment. 37 year old Reginald Chance, seen below – allegedly used his helmet to smash through the SUV’s front window before the driver was pulled from the vehicle and assaulted. Chance has been charged with gang assault, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief and unlawful imprisonment. There is no evidence Chance hit the driver, but Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Samantha Turino said he set in motion the events that led to the beating. Prosecutors say Chance broke the motorist’s window, allowing the other riders to drag him into the street. Chance’s lawyer said the gang assault charge is excessive because his client did not actually assault the driver. “My client obviously overreacted in smashing the window, but beyond that he was not a participant in any assault on the victim,” his lawyer, Gregory Watts, said. A judge set Chance’s bail at $100,000.The confrontation, which was caught on video, occurred after several bikers stopped a Range Rover SUV on a highway, attacked the vehicle, then chased the driver and pulled him from the car after he plowed over a motorcyclist while trying to escape. The driver, Alexian Lien, needed stitches after being pummeled by the bikers. The motorcyclist who was crushed by the SUV, Edwin Mieses Jr., of Lawrence, Mass., suffered a broken spine and two broken legs and may never walk again, his family said. Mieses’ family held a news conference Friday with their lawyer in which they said that he wasn’t doing anything wrong when he was struck by Lien’s SUV. They acknowledged that Mieses had stopped his bike in front of the family’s vehicle but said he was trying to get the other riders to leave the family alone when he was hit. He is the third person to face formal charges in connection with the attack, though the case against one of those motorcyclists was subsequently dismissed when prosecutors said they needed more time to investigate. On Sunday night investigators released a photo, shown below, of a new person of interest interest in the case. Anyone with information about the man is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).Meanwhile, 2 off-duty New York police officers were riding with the biker group whose members allegedly assaulted an SUV driver in New York City, and the NYPD is investigating why the cops apparently did not intervene, authorities said. Among those off duty officers was an undercover narcotics cop who came forward to his superiors days after the incident, according to officials. He did not get involved in the beating out of fear that his cover would be blown, sources said. The cop’s identity has not been released by the NYPD. The officer’s involvement was also the subject of an Internal Affairs investigation, sources said. Another other off-duty officer riding with the group was also believed to have been nearby when the incident occurred, sources said. SCOOP: NBC NEW YORK WHAT DO YOU THINK? should the cops have rescued guy? SHOULD DRIVER BE CHARGED? SHOULD THIS GUY HAVE FLIPPED OFF REPORTERS IN COURT?
