Five killed People In Haiti
Five people were killed when a wall collapsed just outside the capital on Wednesday.
The Secretary of State for public safety, Reginald Delva said the wall collapsed as a result of torrential rains that triggered flash floods in several parts of the country's west region.
Delva explained that late Wednesday, the police recovered the bodies of five victims that were crushed under the rubble of a wall that collapsed in the Tabarre district in the greater metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, following heavy rains that flooded rivers, streets and homes.
"We are further investigating the regrettable event to have more precision on the circumstances surrounding the death of these people," said Delva.
During the accident, several people were also wounded, including a child.
Residents have also reported that several people, who were living under a tent in a nearby camp, were taken away by a river, but the information has not yet been confirmed.
Torrential rains often cause disastrous situations in Haiti because of a lack of drainage systems and because of anarchic constructions in slum areas where people build huts near river beds and in areas exposed to mudslides.
