Young Money's Latest Female MC Wants 'Dope' Music With Nicki Minaj
She's already linked up with Robin Thicke and French Montana, and now Chanel West Coast wants to work with her 'family.'
Chanel West Coast is a woman of many talents. Not only does she hang with Rob Dyrdek on MTV's "Ridiculousness" and "Fantasy Factory," but she's also an accomplished rapper about to take her music career to the next level.
After dropping her mixtape Now You Know back in July, the rapper and TV personality is hoping to prove herself with her forthcoming debut album, which the Young Money Entertainment artist hopes to have out by early 2014.
"That was really hard for me to be on MTV shows and try and break out from that and be known as an artist," she told MTV News. "But basically I met some of the right people who were like '[Lil] Wayne's looking for a new artist. I think that Young Money would be a dope lane for you'."
Chanel made her way to Miami and started working on music for Young Money, becoming the first white female rapper on the label, which also includes superstars Drake, Weezy and Nicki Minaj.
"I think that we're all very different, so I think that I add something else that's different to Young Money," she said. "Obviously I'm the first white female rapper; I think I fit in perfectly to be honest, especially with the fact that I come from the skater world and Wayne is very heavily involved in the skateboarding community now and everything. It feels like family."
She's currently trying to wrap up her debut album alongside producer Rick Skillz. And by adding to her growing list of collaborations, she promises to match the heat she brought to her mixtape with tracks like "Karl." On Now You Know, she enlisted Robin Thicke and French Montana to make cameos and she's hoping to keep it just as A-list on her album.
"I mean there's definitely going to be Young Money artists on my album," she said. "There's definitely going to be a song with Wayne. It's gonna be 10 times as good as the mixtape. You can definitely expect even better."
With Wayne a lock for the album, would she also be down to work with Young Money's fiercest female?
"Definitely! I would love to collaborate with Nicki. I hope that she would like to collaborate with me too," she said. "That would be like a dream collaboration. I look up to her as a female rapper, a female artist and I think together we would make some really dope music."
