New York City Police Probe Shooting Near Long Island Mall
GARDEN CITY, NY (AP) — Police say two people were injured when a former employee of a lighting fixture company walked into a Long Island building and opened fire.
The extent of the injuries was not immediately known. It is also not clear if the gunman fired inside his former company Wednesday morning or elsewhere in the building.
The shooting occurred near the Roosevelt Field mall in Garden City, about 30 miles east of New York City.
The gunman fled in a white SUV on a mall access road. Police launched a manhunt for him.
Area roads are blocked off as police investigate. The mall and nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution. A call to the company wasn't immediately returned.
