(JLP) Leader Hosts First Twitter Town Hall Meeting

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader, Andrew Holness today held his first 'Town Hall Meeting' via his twitter account from 10:00am-11:00am. The Opposition leader invited his followers to ask him questions on a series of topics from the economy to education. One follower asked, "Do you consider free education and free healthcare to be a worthwhile sacrifice?” to which Holness answered, "This is not a sacrifice! Every society must guarantee its citizens certain rights, freedoms and entitlements". Holness entertained questions about his favourite football team to the benefits of legalising ganja. He said many industries could emerge from the decriminalisation of marijuana that could add economic value; however he is “particularly keen on the health aspects”. Another follower asked the party leader if Jamaica could afford two constabulary forces, and what are his thoughts on merging the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Island Special Constabulary Force. Holness replied that the idea has been accepted and he will seek ways to do so when he assumes office again. "What would you differently as Prime Minister if the JLP is elected in the next general elections to encourage young entrepreneurs?” came another question. "Cut the time to start a business, make it easier to access credit, reduce red tape, improve government sponsored vent cap," Holness replied. He then wrapped the session saying, "Just a final word as I have to run. Thank you for participating in this "first of its kind" event. Was not able to answer all questions but I will commit to doing this thing again, and hopefully I will be able to handle the deluge of questions a little better. Thank you for the dialogue. A 21st century leader must embrace Twitter and FB as a tool to engage citizenry, I will continue to do this - AH" The JLP leader is currently being challenged by Audley Shaw for leadership of the party. Shaw recently took a jab at Holness, stating the he [Shaw] does not plan to lead via social media.
